Halloween 2011

Time flies. I can't believe October is already over. I'm sad... but then again, I'm excited to celebrate the holidays with my little family. There's just something that changes about a holiday when you have kids. Somehow it's just more fun. And Harvey is getting to the point where he understands what is going on.

This was the first year we did anything with pumpkins. Despite the face, he was stoked that I let him color with a permanent marker...

But he wasn't quite sure what to think about the pumpkin guts.

He did want to try everything he saw his Daddy do, including use a knife to slice into his pumpkin. Right, son. So we compromised. He was happy as a clam with his plastic Ikea knife:

I think our Jack-O-Lantern turned out pretty darn cute:

Harvey was enchanted by him:

I had visions of our family all coordinating with costumes this year, but I just didn't pull it off. I really love Old Navy costumes for kids because they are so warm and cute, and every time I showed Harvey the selection online he pointed out the Hamburger costume. Seriously? Luckily I talked him into the Dragon.

At first he wasn't so sure about putting that thing on. In fact, at our annual Keetch Family Halloween Bash he slowly pried parts of it off until he was dancing in his diaper. But after we read a few stories about children getting candy for their costume efforts, he warmed up to the idea.

Okay, I put it lightly. He was pleased as punch about the candy part.

We headed over to the trunk-or-treat by our house. I handed out candy to the kids, while wearing the little one. Some people were dressed up to hand out their candy. Maybe next year I'll get more into it. Decorate the trunk? Turn on some Halloween tunes? We'll see. While I was pinned to the bumper, Justin and Harvey made the rounds.

His all time favorite piece of loot:

Later, my mom came by to see Harvey in all his trick-or-treating action:

Again. Big fan of the candy:

And lets be honest here. No need to worry that Harvey is going to eat that whole pile. Justin and I are more than happy to "help him make healthier choices."

Avery, on the other hand, couldn't have cared less about the candy. She slept through nearly all the festivities.

Oh, except for when she -ahem- got hungry while I was the only one home to open the door and hand out candy. That was interesting.

  2. I made Kev and the trick or treaters hang out at home until the feeding portion of the evening was taken care of. I was so not into opening the door to small children and wearing an udder cover at the same time...

  3. HAHA i had the same problem. I wasn't sure what I would do while I was nursing so i just put the bucket of candy on the steps outside and left a sign to take one piece. Maybe some kids took more but not a lot was missing after I was done nursing.

Avery look so adorable. I just love those sweet little cheeks!!!
