Preschool: The Letter F

It was my turn to do preschool with Harvey and his little friends. Since it was was the week before Halloween, I decided to incorporate some spooky and silly Halloween ideas into my letter: F.

First, we talked about how to make the letter F. I had a big black F made of felt that each of the boys traced with their finger. Then we read Room on the Broom by Julia Donaldson. (Love that book!)

We talked about how "Face" starts with the letter F. I had a big mirror laying on the kitchen table and I told each boy to lean over so they could see their Face in the mirror. I suggested an emotion, and the boys made that face: Happy, Sad, Scared, Angry, Surprised, Disgusted... they were all giggling by the end.

Then we talked about how Jack-O-Lanterns are just Faces on a pumpkin. We assembled our own out of paper. I had all of the pieces pre-cut, and the boys glued them on with a gluestick.

Then they colored a Frankenstein Puzzle, and cut along the dotted lines into 4 pieces. We mixed them up and each boy tried to see if they could put the picture back together again.

Then we filled in the letter F with fingerprints. I had a black stamp pad out and after the first initial fingerprints, the boys just started "drawing" with their stamped fingers, so we ended that activity early.

I also had the boys use Flashlights to Find black felt circles in the basement. The lights were off, and those boys loved using the flashlights.

Then we ate a Frankenstein Treat... I drew a silly face on the outside of a clear cup, then poured in Pistachio Pudding, and sprinkled crunched Oreos on top.
